Sri Lanka stormed to a T20I series whitewash over Pakistan at the back of a stunning performance from T20I debutant Oshada Fernando. Setting up a magnificent display of batting at the iconic venue of Gaddafi Stadium, Oshada won all the accolades as he stood tall and thwacked the Pakistan bowling attack to all corners of the ground.
Coming into bat with his side placed at a precarious position before the end of the Powerplay, Oshada wrestled back the impetus from the hosts and batted with supreme confidence. Impressed with the class oozed by the 27-year-old, Sri Lanka chief selector Ashantha de Mel has compared him with legendary batsman Mahela Jayawardene.
"Oshada reminded me of Mahela, just placing it over extra cover, very risk-free batting. As a chief selector, I was happy because we were able to give these guys a chance. Because sometimes what happens is we take them on the tour but we're not able to actually give them a chance,” de Mel remarked.
