Pakistan’s batsmen were completely bamboozled by the bowling of young Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga in the T20I series which eventually resulted in a 0-3 whitewash for the hosts. Hasaranga claimed six wickets in the last two games and received the player of the series award for frequently outsmarting the Pakistan batsmen with his wonderfully disguised googlies.
Shedding light on the deficiencies in Pakistan’s batting department while handling wrist-spinners, head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq conceded his team were missing the presence of Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik. The two senior players were not picked for the limited-overs series even though they are still available for selection.
“This was an eye-opener for us and you as well. The way we go after the seniors. What we did in the World Cup. We forget their performances. These two (Hafeez and Malik) play the spinners so well and we had this problem for the entire series. We were unable to pick their leg spinner,” Misbah admitted.
