Asif Ali starred for Northern in their five-wicket win over Southern Punjab on the second day of the National T20 Cup at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium. After being set a target of 136, Northern were guided by a well-crafted half-century from skipper Umar Amin before frequent wickets in the latter half of the innings threatened to halt their progress.
Northern were then rescued and reached to safety thanks to a tremendous display of power hitting from Asif, who smashed some brilliant strokes in his 24-ball 44.
He remained not out till the end of Northern’s successful chase and hit three sixes and as many fours in his glittering knock.
The 28-year-old has been having a hard time in international cricket as he recently failed to perform in the T20I series against Sri Lanka. However, this match-winning cameo will certainly lift his confidence as Pakistan is desperately in search of hard-hitting batsmen in the lineup.
