After losing to Sindh in their opening encounter of the National T20 Cup, Central Punjab made a strong comeback to knock down a quality side like Northern. In the 5th game of the domestic 20-over event, Northern won the toss and recorded a strong batting performance to get to 222, which was later gunned by Central Punjab led by batting efforts of the centurion batsman Ahmed Shehzad.
Northern’s explosive batsman Asif Ali continued his good run as he delivered another eye-catching performance in a run-feast game that saw more than 440 runs.
The 28-year old showed a lot of maturity as he rescued his team from 59-3 and joined hands with all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz to sail his unit’s ship in troubled waters.
Doing so, Asif recorded the 11th half-century of his T20 career, which was later turned into a gigantic knock. Mustering 93 runs consuming only 35 balls, the Faisalabad born smashed Central Punjab’s bowlers to register 4 fours and 10 sixes.
After Bilal Asif and Kamran Akmal, he also became only the third Pakistani player to hit 10 sixes in a T20 innings. With a fantabulous batting show, Asif stole the thunder of the day with his blistering half-century. However, Ahmed’s blitz overshadowed Asif’s brilliance to secure a much-needed victory for Central Punjab.
