A stunning display of batting from Ahmed Shehzad helped Central Punjab to a thrilling four-wicket win over Northern to achieve their first victory of the National T20 Cup. Shehzad struck an unbeaten 111 from 63 balls to help his side surmount the towering 223-run target.
After being set a massive score of 223 to chase down in 20 overs largely due to Asif Ali’s pristine striking skills, Central Punjab was dealt with early blows in the form of the loss of Babar Azam and Kamran Akmal. However, Shehzad remained undeterred and wrestled back the momentum to deliver a brilliant counterpunch.
The opening batsman continued to play his dazzling strokes, mesmerizing the Faisalabad crowd as he made sure the required run rate did not climb out of reach. Shehzad brought the fifth century of his T20 career – the third Asian batsman to do so – by muscling the ball to the square leg boundary off Haris Rauf’s bowling. He hit a total of 13 fours and three sixes in his sublime knock.
