After a lot of deliberations, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shunned their previous cricket mechanism of departmental cricket while adopting regional cricket associations. On one hand, this move promotes quality rather than quantity, but, on the other hand, it pushed many cricketers out of the system, thus augmenting their financial difficulties.
Recently, Pakistan’s former Test cricketer Basit Ali came forward to share his views on the move of governing body of cricket in Pakistan regarding discarding departmental cricket without catering the financial needs of many players.
Basit Ali once again raised concerns over PCB's policies
The cricketer turned commentator believes that PCB hasn’t done any homework because of which players are suffering both mentally and financially.
Basit highlighted that Pakistan won all the major tournaments (1992 World Cup, 2009 T20 World Cup and 2017 Champions Trophy) under departmental cricket and so there was no reason for shifting to the regional mechanism.
Moreover, he criticized the elected Prime Minister Imran Khan for letting it all happen as he believes that the former skipper became stubborn on this decision without weighing the benefits and costs properly.
