The tragic and shameful episode of ball-tampering robbed the star Australian batsman Steve Smith of his one valuable year of the International cricket. Moreover, it snatched his captaincy as the wicket-keeper batsman Tim Paine was trusted to steady the Australian ship during tumultuous times.
Now that Smith is back in the national colors, many want him to lead Australia again, while others want to keep him away from the national captaincy framework.
Legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has recently expressed his support for Smith as he firmly believes that Smith deserves a chance to lead Kangaroos yet again.
Explaining his stance, the former Aussie skipper said that Tim Paine should lead the side as long as he plays, but it is Smith who should be taking the Australian cricket forward.
The Tasmania born also located a dearth of leaders in the national team as he applauded Smith’s ability to come good in pressure situations. It remains to be seen how Cricket Australia responds to Ponting’s suggestion.
