Veteran Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga will return to lead his side in the three-match T20I series against Australia but many players from the young team that performed well on the tour of Pakistan have retained their places.
Dasun Shanaka, who led Sri Lanka to their historic T20I series whitewash over Pakistan in Lahore, has vacated his captaincy post to make way for Malinga.
The 36-year-old was Sri Lanka’s captain in the home series against New Zealand but opted out of the Pakistan tour due to security concerns.
Moreover, three other players – Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella – who were not part of the Pakistan tour have also returned to the team. Sri Lanka is expected to play three T20Is in Australia starting October 27.
