Pakistan have appointed Azhar Ali as the new Test skipper replacing Sarfaraz Ahmed. Azhar’s first assignment in charge of the side will be the two Tests in Australia scheduled to take place next month.
This will not be Azhar’s first captaincy stint since he served as the Pakistan skipper in ODIs following the retirement of Misbah-ul-Haq in the 50-over format.
However, Azhar fared poorly and even suffered a 0-3 whitewash at the hands of Bangladesh. Despite his mediocre past track record and claims of being a defensive captain, Azhar discarded such notions and said he was a changed person now.
"Time teaches you a lot and it's also sometimes easy for others to comment sitting outside that I am a defensive captain but it really depends on the team's combination, and that drives the way you captain the side,” Azhar told reporters.
