Azhar Ali has recently been given charge of the Pakistan Test side after the PCB decided to remove Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain from all formats. Azhar’s first assignment in the leadership role will be the two Tests scheduled to take place in Australia next month.
While Pakistan has never won a Test series in Australia, Azhar’s previous trip to the country brings happy memories for him personally.
He ended up as the leading run-getter for his side as Pakistan were humiliated 0-3 by the Australian side led by Steve Smith.
Azhar racked up 406 runs in the three games at an astonishing average 81.20 including a stunning double century at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The right-handed batsman also scored two fifties in the series as he lit up the stage with fine batting masterclasses, punishing the star-studded Australian bowling attack with his glorious drives.
