Sarfaraz Ahmed was removed from the captaincy in abrupt fashion ahead of the Australia tour as he has also lost his place in the squads for the upcoming Test and T20I series. Pakistan head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq has clarified that there was no conspiracy involved in dismissing Sarfaraz from his leadership role contrary to the reports circulating in the media.
Misbah said the final decision was taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani to exclude the wicket-keeper-batsman from the squad given his poor form. The former skipper emphasized that the doors of international cricket would always remain open for Sarfaraz, provided he performs in domestic cricket.
“The doors are open for Sarfaraz and everyone else to regain form in the domestic cricket and comeback. We have always backed Sarfaraz and he is a good enough player and has performed for the country,” Misbah stated.
