Captaining the national team is considered as one of the biggest honors of the cricketing world. However, with it, comes a never ending loop of responsibility. It all becomes even more difficult in the sub-continent culture where people usually react a lot emotionally while reading the situation of a game they adore.
Recently, former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali decided to share his views on the historical captaincy framework of the country. The Karachi born said that there are two types of skippers; natural and accidental, and Pakistan saw both of them throughout its cricketing history. He picked Javed Miandad, Mushtaq Mohammad, Saleem Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Younis Khan and Wasim Akram as the natural leaders.
On the other hand, he added that Misbah-ul-Haq, Amir Sohail, Zaheer Abbas, Waqar Younis, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf and Wasim Bari are accidental captains. The 48-year old also highlighted the current captaincy fiasco of the boys in green as he criticized board’s decision of removing wicket-keeper batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed as the national captain.
