The cricketing world witnessed yet another weird and disappointing moment when a member of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) cricket team left his country without having told anyone. Ghulam Shabber was supposed to appear before the team meeting but he did not show up for it.
“At 11am yesterday we had a team meeting, and Ghulam Shabber did not show up for it,” Peter Kelly, the UAE team manager, said.
Reports also suggest that Ghulam Shabber has flown to his birth-place Pakistan and he is currently safe in there. However, the reason for his absence still remains a mystery.
Fast bowler Mohammed Naveed, Qadeer Ahmed and the middle-order batsman Shaiman Anwar were charged with breaching anti-corruption code last week and the incident of Ghulam Shabber is another huge jolt to the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB).
