India skipper Virat Kohli has been left out of the T20I squad for the three short-form games against Bangladesh due to commence on November 3. Kohli, who recently participated in the Test series whitewash over South Africa, will be sitting out of the T20I matches.
India’s veteran batsman Rohit Sharma will be performing the captaincy duties for the three-match series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced.
Rohit has already captained India in 15 T20Is and is the incumbent skipper of Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Mumbai Indians.
Kohli will, nevertheless, return to lead India in the two Tests which follow the T20I encounters. The decision taken by the BCCI to rest Kohli is part of the workload management policy in order to keep their star players’ fitness intact.
