Australia started their home season with a magnificent victory against Sri Lanka as the yellow jersey registered their biggest ever T20I victory. Winning the toss, the tourists decided to bowl first and restrict Australia to a manageable total. However, Kangaroos wreaked havoc on Sri Lanka by posting a formidable total of 233 runs on the board.
While the opening batsman David Warner stole the thunder of the day with a spectacular century, it is hard to ignore the prowess and belligerence of Glenn Maxwell who doomed the Islanders with a 28-ball 62. During his laudable cameo, the 31-year old pummeled the bowlers to all parts of the ground to smash 7 fours and 3 sixes.
After the dismissal of the skipper Aaron Finch, Sri Lanka was hopeful of crawling back into the game, but Maxwell closed all the doors by his crispy innings. Joining the party, Aussie bowlers bowled brilliantly against an under pressure Sri Lankan unit to keep them under 100, thus handling Australia an emphatic 134 runs victory in the first T20I.
