After beating Pakistan at their home, Sri Lanka came to Australia with a lot of expectations. However, the home team smashed them to kick off their home season in an iconic manner. In the first of the three-game T20I series, Australia batted first to post 233 runs on the board and batted Sri Lanka almost out of the game.
Skipper Aaron Finch and his partner David Warner thumped Sri Lanka right from the word go and then Glenn Maxwell continued the Aussie party. As if this wasn’t enough, Australian bowlers too recorded a great day. In this way, Sri Lanka was handled their heaviest defeat in the shortest format of the game.
It is important to mention the bowling contribution of the leg-spinner Adam Zampa who recorded his best ever bowling figures in the T20I cricket. Picking wickets of Dasun Shanaka, Lakshan Sandakan and Kasun Rajitha, the 27-year old gave a good account of his skills. In his 4-over quota, Zampa conceded only 14 runs, thus helping Australia record a memorable victory against the Islanders.
