In the advancing mode of cricket, fitness of the players holds a key position. A player needs to be perfectly fit to compete in the modern-day dynamics. Recently, England’s Selector Ed Smith expressed his thoughts over the rotation policy in cricket.
Smith seconded the idea of following the footsteps of football and rugby in giving the players rest. Giving the example of recently conducted Rugby World Cup, Smith said that, “it has made itself a 23-man game”. “It's crucial we attend to players' wellbeing, he said.
“Moving forward, rest and rotation will be a central part of good selection. Players must be well mentally and physically, and capable of performing at their best when we need them to." He further added. Smith came up with this explanation after he made the decision of dropping Jonny Bairstow from the English squad.
