Papua New Guinea- a country rich in culture and diversity, encompasses the Southwestern part of the Pacific Ocean. The country in Oceania made history after they qualified for the ICC T20I World Cup in Australia next year. Papua New Guinea topped group “A” after their victory over Kenya.
Ian Bishop, the former Windies player hailed PNG. The team with very minute fan following made a great achievement, Bishop highlighted. “It’s not news that may be resonating with as many fans around the world as it should but the fact that Papua New Guinea has qualified for their first Men’s T20 World Cup in 2020 is one of the modern crickets amazing feel-good stories”, he said.
Papua New Guinea, along with the other 5 qualifiers, will join Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the group stages next year. The 8 teams will be divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20I World Cup 2020.
