India’s government has not yet responded to the its cricket board’s request regarding the upcoming series against Pakistan women, implying that they will have to forfeit points. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is scheduled to host Pakistan women for an ODI series in November as part of the ICC Championship.
The fragile diplomatic relations between the two nations means the BCCI had to seek permission of the federal government to conduct the matches in India. However, the Indian government’s continued silence will eventually lead to BCCI excusing themselves from the series with the points allocated to Pakistan.
Such a scenario has occurred previously as well when India women abandoned their tour to Pakistan in 2016 resulting in the points going to the latter. The men’s teams of India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since December 2012.
