Security beefed up for India after terror threat

An anonymous letter addressed to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) containing the name of India skipper Virat Kohli on a threat list has prompted the Delhi Police to beef up the security of the Indian cricket team ahead of the Bangladesh series.

India are scheduled to play their first T20I against the South Asian neighbours on November 3 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the nation’s capital city. According to sources in the Delhi Police, a letter was received by the security authorities including several high-profile figures who could be targeted in assassination attempts.

The NIA immediately forwarded the letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Although there is a possibility the letter could be a hoax, the matter is being seriously investigated and no compromise is being done on the security of the team.
