Australia’s top-order batsman Usman Khawaja was recently dropped from the playing eleven because of poor returns. Scoring only 122 runs in three Ashes Tests at 20.3 led the management to remove him from the team, which also creates confusion concerning his inclusion in the unit for the Tests against Pakistan.
However, he has recently been backed by the former Australian cricketer Darren Lehmann. The cricketer-turned coach highlighted Usman’s glorious record at home as he backed him to reacquire his batting mojo and be a part of the team which is set to face Pakistan in the next few weeks.
While the 32-year old cricketer smashed back-to-back centuries in the 50-over domestic cricket, his red-ball form didn’t improve with him scoring only 27 runs in the last 4 innings. Nevertheless, Lehmann believes that the prolific batsman is one good innings away from getting back in form. Moreover, he said that if Australia is looking for a ‘horses for courses’ strategy, then Usman deserves a chance to stay in the Test team.
