Bangladesh’s veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is finding himself in hot waters because of not reporting multiple approaches from an alleged bookie called Deepak Aggarwal. Despite possessing many years of international experience, the talismanic cricketer made a blunder, hence earned a two-year ban from the International Cricket Council (ICC).
It was first in November 2017 when Shakib was contacted by Deepak during Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) where he wanted to meet Bangladesh’s skipper.
Then in January 2018 during the ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, Aggarwal contacted Shakib to know the situation while also asking if he should wait till the commencement of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The story didn’t end here as IPL 2018 saw Deepak connecting with Shakib during his team Sunrisers Hyderabad’s game against Kings XI Punjab where the corruptor tried to extract inside information whilst also inquiring about account details of Shakib.
Anti-corruption officers interviewed the Bangladeshi pro on January 23 and August 27 of the ongoing year. While the 32-year old cricketer finally grew a concern, it was all too late. After reporting it to the International governing body of cricket, he was handled a punishment, which he readily accepted and promised to come back as a stronger person.
