After getting jolted by the news of senior cricketer Shakib Al Hasan’s suspension, Bangladesh is set to face India in a three-game T20I series followed by two Tests. It would be an understatement to say that Bangladesh will miss the services of their talismanic all-rounder. However, the newly installed T20I skipper Mahmudullah is confident to do well despite the absence of Shakib.
Nevertheless, it is important to mention that Mahmudullah doesn’t contain an ideal record when it comes to playing the shortest format of the game against the men in blue. In 8 games against India, the skillful cricketer has mustered only 132 runs, averaging only 22 with the bat. Moreover, his bowling returns too aren’t impressive as he claimed only 2 T20I wickets against the blue team.
While the optimism and confidence from the 33-year old cricketer is commendable, Mahmudullah will have to lead by example as the unit has been demoralized with the loss of Shakib. It remains to be seen how Mahmudullah fares in the forthcoming T20I series against India which is set to commence from November 3 in Delhi followed by games on November 7 and 10 at Rajkot and Nagpur respectively.
