Pakistan started their tour of Australia positively with a thumping victory against Cricket Australia XI in the tour game. Winning the toss, the home team decided to bat first, but failed to take an advantage of the situation. Pakistan’s efficient bowling unit bowled brilliantly to restrict them to 134 which was later chased easily courtesy of batting contributions from Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam and Haris Sohail.
While everyone chipped in well, it was the stellar performance of the all-rounder Shadab Khan which paved the way of Pakistan’s victory. The 21-year old leaked 25 runs in his first three overs, but registered a stunning last over in the backend of the innings where he conceded only 5 runs while claiming 2 important scalps, thus breaking the back of Cricket Australia XI.
As a result, the boys in green were able to halt the progress of the opponents. Shadab’s efforts were backed by other bowlers to allow Pakistan an easy passage. It was great to see the Mianwali born getting back into wickets as he recently endured a tough time. However, it remains to be seen how he performs against a quality unit like Australia.
