India’s young all-rounder Vijay Shankar had a privilege of representing his country at the World Cup 2019 stage in England and Wales earlier this year. The all-rounder talked about his stint in the mega-event and highlighted a special moment when he was given the new ball against Pakistan.
Shankar was handed the new ball against Pakistan when Bhuvneshwar Kumar walked out of the field courtesy a niggle. Surprisingly Shankar dismissed Imam-ul-Haq on the very first ball of his spell.
Talking about that moment he said, “I was very happy with my performance against Pakistan. Honestly, I was not expecting to bowl when I was handed the ball, but in such a situation, I just tried to give off my best and bowl tightly. There was a little bit of swing on offer and I wanted to make use of that. It was an unbelievable moment”, he added.
Shankar is relatively new to the circuit; he has represented India in 12 ODIs and 9 T20I matches. The all-rounder had a good outing in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and now he wants to carry on long-term basis for India.
