Against many expectations, paceman Mohammad Irfan was called back to the national squad for the T20I series against Australia. The justification for his inclusion was the fact that, with his height, he could exploit the bouncy nature of the Australian tracks which are ideal for someone as tall as Irfan.
Irfan himself was confident to do well for Pakistan getting a game almost after 3 and a half years. However, the 37-year old bowled in a horrendous manner. In the pursuit of defending 118 runs from 15 overs, Irfan started the game nicely by conceding only 5 runs in his first over. But, he wasn’t able to sustain it as his line and length went to the dogs in his next over.
Australian skipper Aaron Finch thumped Irfan left, right and center to milk him for 26 runs in an over, setting his team far ahead in the game by reaching the D/L powerplay score. However, it was the rain which saved Pakistan as the game ended without a result. Nevertheless, it gave Pakistani management a lot to think as Irfan looked poor and including his stiffness in the field, he would emerge as a liability.
