India’s premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is set to leave the IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab ahead of the 13th edition of the league. The star player will vacate his role as captain of the team, having led them in the previous two seasons.
Kings XI are yet to claim the coveted IPL title despite having been part of the tournament ever since its inception. The decision to appoint Ashwin as skipper of the side failed to overturn KXIP’s fortunes as they could not make it to the playoffs in the last two editions.
"I know there is a lot of speculation but we are still talking. Ashwin is a very good, versatile player. Any team would love to have him. We are talking to a few different teams (including Delhi) and as soon as we are clear, we will announce it," Ness Wadia, co-owner of the team, was quoted as saying.
It is speculated that Ashwin will be joining the Delhi Capitals for the 2020 season. He began his IPL career with Chennai Super Kings and also briefly represented Rising Pune Supergiants.
