England’s wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow joins England Test squad ahead of the series against New Zealand as the back-up player for Joe Denly. Denly, who sustained ligament damage to his right ankle in practice ahead of the the first T20I at the start of the month, is making progress on his rehabilitation and is hoping that he will be fit to play in the three-day warm-up match starting on Friday November 15.
The right-handed batsman will stay in New Zealand after the conclusion of T20I series. If Denly does not recover fully, Bairstow will take his place in the England’s side.
Bairstow was previously excluded from the England’s Test squad after his ordinary performance in the Ashes 2019. Jonny Bairstow insisted on coming back stronger when he was excluded from the English Test side. Now as the opportunity lies on his doorstep, the wicket-keeper batsman will be eager to capitalize on it. He has represented England in 69 Test matches in which he averages 35.26.
