Nathan Lyon, Australia’s 3rd highest wicket-taker in the Test matches, reflects back on the incredible summer in England as the Australians managed to retain the Ashes 2019. The off-spinner rated it as one of the best highlights of his career for the Kangaroos.
Australia was bossing the series before Ben Stokes’ magic turned things around and left the series wide open with his enthralling knock in the 3rd Test match at Manchester. The Kangaroos fought back valiantly in the next game and took a 2-1 lead at Headingley. England ended the series on high after vanquishing over the Australians in the 5th and final Test of the series at the Oval.
"It is one of the biggest highlights of my career, when we were able to stand up there as a team and lift up the urn at The Oval after the final Test”, Lyon talked about retaining the Ashes title. The off-spinner bowled pretty well as he picked up 20 wickets in the series. He spun Australia to victory in the first Test match at Edgbaston where he picked up 9 wickets in the game including the figures of 6-49 in the 2nd innings.
