For the second time in almost four months, New Zealand were at the receiving end of yet another heartbreak as they fell short by the ‘barest of margins’ against England in the final T20I of the five-match series. The match in Auckland, reduced to a 11-over game due to persistent rain, saw England tie the contest before prevailing in the Super Over.
The proceedings were similar to what transpired in the high-voltage clash between these two sides in the World Cup final at Lord’s in July. That fateful encounter had seen the two teams’ scores in the six-ball shootout also end in parity though this time England won by 9 runs in the Super Over.
Reacting to the loss, New Zealand cricketer Jimmy Neesham posted a photograph of his team looking dejected and jokingly called on divine intervention to change the Black Caps’ fortunes. Neesham’s plea to the Almighty was warmly received by the social media community who empathized with the all-rounder’s sentiments.
