19-year-old marksman Gulfam Joseph has become the latest Pakistani athlete to book a spot in the Olympics 2020 in Tokyo, Japan. The youngster is the third Pakistani shooter in the history of the sport to make it to the Olympics. He has registered this special achievement at the back of a stellar performance in the Asian Air Pistol Championship in Qatar.
Ecstatic to see a fellow Pakistani make his nation proud on the international stage, veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik penned a tweet to congratulate Gulfam.
He admired the teenager for making it big and requested the country’s general populace to espouse a more positive mindset rather than focusing on the negatives.
Malik, who recently failed to earn a call-up to Pakistan’s T20I squad in the series against Australia, claimed it was important to identify the rising sporting stars and give them the recognition they deserve. The 37-year-old has been lately involved in several efforts aimed at mainstreaming the often overlooked sportspersons in Pakistan.
