Renowned popstar Katy Perry has been unveiled as the main performer for next year’s T20 World Cup final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The American songstress is a major addition to the tournament’s closing ceremony, which coincides with International Women’s Day on March 8.
The induction of Perry is aimed at making a new world record for the highest attendance at a women’s sporting fixture and capture the growing interest in women’s cricket. Perry will perform before the match and during the post-game celebrations.
"I'm all about celebrating equality and the achievements of women, which naturally happens on a global scale on International Women's Day," she said expressing her excitement for the event. "It's no coincidence that I said yes to performing live at the women's final on this day,” Perry added.
