Former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur is expected to be appointed as the new Sri Lanka coach according to sources. While discussions are currently ongoing between the two parties, the Sri Lankan cricket board is confident of bringing the 51-year-old on-board.
“We are having discussions with Mickey. We think we will be able to reach an agreement. He had won the 2017 Champions Trophy with Pakistan and had also taken Pakistan to the number one spot in T20s. He's a well-known coach and he's been around for a while," Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) CEO Ashley de Silva was quoted as saying by a major cricket publication.
Arthur was Pakistan’s head coach for three years during which he played an instrumental role in elevating the side’s performances in limited-overs cricket and introduced a strict fitness culture in the Pakistan dressing room. His coaching contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was not renewed following the team’s underwhelming display at the World Cup in England and Wales.
