South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock channeled his inner MS Dhoni by indulging in a brilliant bit of deception to dismiss Andile Phehlukwayo. During the Mzansi Super League (MSL) clash between Durban Heat and Cape Town Blitz, de Kock showcased some street-smart keeping skills.
The last ball of the 18th over saw Phehlukwayo miscue a slog towards the fielder Marques Ackerman, who failed to latch onto the catching opportunity. Ackerman recovered quickly and threw the ball towards the striker’s end where de Kock was waiting to pounce on a run-out opportunity.
Phehlukwayo did not have his eyes on the ball as he casually strolled for the second run where de Kock’s posture of his hands on his hips gave the batter the illusion that the ball was far away. Immediately the keeper sprang into action and deflected the ball towards the stumps after receiving it, managing to catch the all-rounder short of his crease.
