There was a lot of criticism directed on the Australian selectors after opening batter Joe Burns was overlooked for a spot in the Test side for the Ashes in England. He had struck a remarkable 180 against Sri Lanka in his previous outing on the international arena but was still ignored by the selectors.
Finally managing to find his way back into the national side in the first Test against Pakistan, Burns made hay while the sun shone in Brisbane.
Burns’ fairytale comeback was laced with superb strokes and classy drives all around the park but he could not get to the magical three-figure mark.
Burns just fell short of the fifth century of his Test career by three runs as he was bowled round his legs trying to sweep Yasir Shah from a tricky angle.
Nevertheless, Burns’ brilliant batting has enabled him to cement his place in the Test unit and he will be looking to further torment Pakistan’s bowling attack.
