Mohammad Rizwan’s Test debut two years ago was a forgettable affair as he registered a duck in his maiden outing in New Zealand. Getting his second chance after a long time to don the white jersey on the international stage, Rizwan made the most of his opportunity and slammed a sublime 95 in the second innings against Australia.
The wicketkeeper-batsman had huge shoes to fill in as he replaced former skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and he has validated the faith bestowed in him by the selectors with a gorgeous display of strokeplay. After being given out in controversial circumstances in the first innings, Rizwan batted terrifically on day four to stall Australia’s march towards victory.
He hit 10 boundaries during his impressive contribution of 95 runs but was rendered unlucky to fall just five runs short of his first hundred in the format. Despite failing to achieve the personal milestone, Rizwan has broken the record of most runs by a Pakistani wicketkeeper in an individual innings in Australia.
