Caribbean legend Chris Gayle has been undergoing a rather turbulent phase in his career of late following an explosive press conference where he blasted franchise owners for not giving him respect. Now, the belligerent batsman has decided to make himself unavailable for the upcoming ODI series between West Indies and India.
The 40-year-old will take a break from cricketing duties till the end of this year and wants to instead focus on his plans for 2020. Gayle will not be part of Australia’s Big Bash League tournament as well while a cloud of uncertainty hangs over his participation in the revamped Bangladesh Premier League.
"West Indies called me to play ODIs, but I am not going to play. The selectors want me to play with the youngsters but for this year I am going to take a break,” Gayle said. He has not yet clarified his plans to retire from international cricket despite hinting at wanting to continue donning the national jersey.
