Former English cricketer, Nasser Hussain, defends England’s Test captain Joe Root after his dismal performances in the recent past. Root came under criticism after England lost badly to New Zealand in the 1st Test match. Adding fuel to the flames, Root’s batting form is also in tatters as he managed to score only 13 runs in the game.
Nasser Hussain feels that Root’s batting is more important than his captaincy. "What is the most important? For me, it is his batting. That is the one you most want to fire and for that to happen you need him to go back to enjoying his cricket, not overcomplicating or overthinking it", Nasser said.
Nasser also highlighted the fact that England’s performance overseas has not been really noteworthy. But Root has to learn quickly that how he can use his resources effectively in the conditions outside England. However, Nasser backed him and said that we cannot write off Root as captain provided the fact that he has been pretty consistent in the past
