With the drafts for the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) only a few days away, all the teams have announced their team retentions. Karachi Kings, a side which has traditionally underperformed in the 20-over competition, did the same to keep 7 players intact against a maximum limit of 8 cricketers.
Babar Azam and Mohammad Amir have stayed in the platinum category, while Imad Wasim, nominated as the brand ambassador of Karachi, went into the diamond category.
Iftikhar Ahmed also found a place in the diamond group. In the gold, silver and emerging categories, Karachi retained Amir Yamin, Usama Mir and Umer Khan. This means that the blue team has released all their foreign players, which comes as a surprise to many.
Moreover, the unit currently sits without a wicket-keeper batsman as Mohammad Rizwan failed to make a spot in the Karachi’s team.
Kings will have to make a good mix of foreign and local stars along with a hunt of a pace bowling partner for Mohammad Amir after releasing Usman Shinwari, who was snapped up by Lahore Qalandars. It remains to be seen how Karachi fares in the draft, which is to take place on December 6 in Lahore.
