All the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have announced their retentions for the upcoming season scheduled to take place in its entirety in Pakistan. Lahore Qalandars, who have dwelled at the bottom of the points table since the inaugural edition, have gone for a surprising combination of retentions as they try to change their fortunes in PSL 5.
The Lahore-based team has intriguingly decided to include Salman Butt among their retention list. Former skipper Butt was disgraced in the spot-fixing scandal when he was convicted for his crime and served a lengthy suspension from cricket. He has since made a comeback to the domestic circuit in flying colors but has not translated that form in T20 cricket.
Butt’s selection is particularly odd given the fact he played a couple of matches for Qalandars in the previous season but failed to make an impact with the bat.
The other notable retentions by Qalandars comprise of Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf while David Wiese is the sole foreign recruit among them. AB de Villiers was the renowned absentee as he has pulled out of PSL 5.
