20-year-old top-order batsman Abdullah Shafiq has become the latest batting prodigy to set alight the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. The decisive first-class fixture between Central Punjab and Southern Punjab has seen CP’s Abdullah score a century on his debut in the format.
The Sialkot-born cricketer graduated from the concurrent Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Second XI tournament and crafted majestic innings in his maiden outing in the country’s premier first-class competition.
He racked up 133 runs in 209 deliveries as his stellar effort helped lift his team to a dominant position in the game. Abdullah struck 16 boundaries and a solitary maximum in his elegant stay at the crease.
He was involved in a terrific 179-run partnership for the second wicket with fellow centurion Ahmed Shehzad. Abdullah was finally dismissed by veteran spinner Zulfiqar Babar.
