Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) held its annual awards ceremony recently to honor the top performers in a glitzy ceremony. All-rounder Thisara Perera and pacer Lasith Malinga were the most popular names as they were conferred with two awards each during the ceremony.
Perera won the ODI all-rounder of the year award along with the T20I batsman of the year. Meanwhile, ace speedster Malinga clinched the ODI and T20I bowler of the year award given his remarkable spells in the white-ball formats. Despite being in the twilight of his illustrious career, the 36-year-old was the standout bowler for his team in the ICC World Cup.
Malinga also claimed a hat-trick against New Zealand in a T20I at home, picking up four wickets in four successive deliveries in the fateful encounter. Among Test players, skipper Dimuth Karunaratne bagged the batsman of the year prize while Dilruwan Perera was given the bowler of the year award.
