Bangladesh’s veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has decided to withdraw his name from the upcoming auction ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The ace player has opted out of the star-studded list featuring 971 cricketers from all around the world as they hope to get picked by the IPL franchises.
Mushfiqur is yet to make his debut in the glitzy tournament. He was part of two previous IPL auctions but remained unsold despite his relatively low base price compared to other foreign players.
The 32-year-old continues to be a vital cog in the Bangladesh lineup and his role in the side has become even more important with the suspension of Shakib Al Hasan for a period of one year.
Mushfiqur’s prospects of attracting an IPL bid by a team could have been brighter this time around given his recent masterful innings against India to help Bangladesh achieve their first T20I win over their South Asian rivals. Meanwhile, there will be six Bangladeshi cricketers in the IPL 2020 auction including Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah.
