21-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan has been selected by Quetta Gladiators as their emerging pick for the second time in a row in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Azam, son of Gladiators head coach Moin Khan, has been included in the team’s squad for the fifth edition of the PSL.
The right-handed batsman is known for his power-hitting abilities but has thus far only played one PSL match for the Gladiators where he scored just 12 runs. Azam has also played eight List A matches where he averages a mediocre 13.25.
His selection in the Gladiators lineup has often attracted criticism from fans owing to his bulky figure, which is not considered to be in line with the modern standards of fitness. With the presence of skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed in the squad, Azam is once again unlikely to get a long-run in the side as there might not be room for a substitute wicket-keeper.
