Pakistan’s recent tour to Australia was a horrible show, which was particularly fueled by ordinary outings of senior cricketers Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq. The only shining light was Babar Azam who fought bravely against a world class bowling attack.
This obviously caused a backlash against Azhar and Asad. Nevertheless, head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq has backed the senior pros of Pakistan. The 45-year old player believes that these batters are a nucleus of the team. Furthermore, calling them ‘match-winners’, Misbah showed confidence in Azhar and Asad to record elite batting shows against Sri Lanka and regain confidence.
“There are always some players who form the nucleus of the team and I still believe Azhar and Asad are our key guys along with Babar Azam who showed his class in Australia. The senior cricketers are our match winners and it is harsh to discard them on account of few bad performances”, said by former skipper of Pakistan as wished to see Azhar and Asad scoring big against Islanders.
