West Indies’ ace all-rounder Andre Russell has made a bold statement by choosing the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) over Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL). Russell, who plies his trade in various T20 leagues around the world, said BPL was more fun to be part of given its short length as compared to the BBL.
“This tournament is more fun. It is shorter [than the BBL]. So less time away from home. I get a lot of love here. The hospitality and everything is amazing. You get a warm welcome on this side of the world. I never really think twice,” Russell was quoted as saying after being unveiled as Rajshahi Royals’ captain.
The hard-hitting batsman has previously been involved in the BBL, although he has not taken part in the competition since the 2016-17 season. The BPL and BBL roughly occur at the same time in the cricketing calendar and Russell has preferred the former over the latter in the last few years.
