Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian batsman, took a jibe at the fielding efforts of the Indian team in the series against the West Indies. The standard of the Indian team’s fielding in the T20I series was not up to the mark. Even the fielders like Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Virat Kohli faltered.
"I think fielding is the most important thing. You save runs, you put pressure on the opposition," Gavaskar told the local news network. "The Indian team has been doing really well. But I think the more they do in the fielding department, take catches and save more runs, the easier it will become for them," he added.
"In T20 cricket, it's not just India but there are other teams as well who are not good at defending the totals. In the first T20I, even West Indies couldn't defend a total which was in excess of 200. So, it's not just a situation with India, it's generally with most other teams as well. They find it difficult to defend," said Gavaskar.
India has without a doubt emerged as the best fielding side in modern-day cricket. That is the reason why they are dominating the rankings in the ODI and Test cricket. However, it is the T20I format that has been a little concern for the men in blue.
