Asghar Afghan is back as captain of the Afghanistan cricket team, months after being sacked from the leadership role earlier this year. Afghan will replace superstar leg-spinner Rashid Khan as the Afghanistan skipper for all formats.
Rashid was appointed captain of the team in the aftermath of a disastrous World Cup campaign where Afghanistan finished the tournament winless under Gulbadin Naib.
Rashid then led Afghanistan to a memorable Test win against Bangladesh in September but faced a T20I series whitewash at the hands of West Indies recently.
Afghan’s removal from captaincy in April had initially drawn criticism from Rashid and Mohammad Nabi. He was then named deputy to Rashid following the marquee 50-over event in England and Wales in the summer.
