Shreyas Iyer, the talented cricketer of India, is one of those batters who are striving hard to book a permanent place in the national team. Holding a sparkling record in the domestic circuit, the 25-year old wants to give his best in the upcoming ODI games against West Indies.
Reviewing this scenario and discussing India’s search for a reliable number 4 batsman, former Indian captain Anil Kumble shared his wish to see Iyer batting at 4 for India.
The 49-year old said that the absence of Shikhar Dhawan will definitely push Lokesh Rahul to open the innings and Virat Kohli at 3 is always a done deal. Therefore, he wants the management to give Iyer a proper go at 4.
“With Shikhar not being there, it is quite clear that Lokesh Rahul will get a chance to open the innings with Rohit. Therefore, it is a good chance to give Shreyas Iyer a chance at 4. We have seen his quality and so he appears to be the right man for the spot,” Kumble said ahead of India’s first ODI contest against West Indies, which is scheduled to be played on December 15 in Chennai.
