Even after few months of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s shift to regional cricket whilst discarding the departmental cricket, things aren’t smooth as the cricket board is still getting criticized for it. The recent episode of the Pakistani opening batsman Abid Ali, who became the first male cricketer to muster centuries both on Test and ODI debuts, scoring a sublime century in his maiden Test innings gave air to the debate.
Seeing the Lahore born producing an elite batting outing in Rawalpindi Test, the former PCB chairman Najam Sethi took to his official Twitter handle to share his views. The 71-year old revealed that Abid Ali, whose talent wasn’t highlighted and recognized by his region, was inducted in Islamabad region by Shakil Shaikh where the 32-year old honed his skills.
Hence, it was the departmental cricket which helped Pakistan to see the prowess of Abid Ali by not letting this special talent go in despair. Moreover, the Kasur born slammed the decision of governing body of Pakistan cricket for changing the structure by eroding those bases which helped unleash fantastic talents.
